The presenters of the course are all board members of the Bluestocking Institute for Global Peace and Justice, who have recently completed or are close to completing their PhDs in International Studies and Politics. They have teaching experience with UWA, Curtin University, Murdoch University, Adelaide University, and Bluestocking Institute activities.
PRESENTER PROFILES
Sky Croeser completed her PhD, ‘The Global Justice Movement and Struggles Over Knowledge’, in 2010. Her research interests include critical perspectives on science and technology, the political aspects of free and open source software, debates around genetic modification technology, and the global justice movement. She has tutored with UWA, presented and coordinated several community forums with Bluestocking, and has recently taken up a full-time teaching position at Curtin University.
Kelly Gerard is a PhD student at UWA and she holds bachelor degrees in arts and economics. Her doctoral thesis looks at the issue of governance in a globalised world. It examines the factors that prevent social movements from participating in intergovernmental forums in East Asia and the prospects for a more participatory form of regional governance. Her research interests include globalisation and governance, Asian regionalism, and transnational activism. She presently teaches at UWA. Previously she has worked as a violin teacher, interned for the Social Market Foundation in London, and lived in China to study Mandarin.
Michelle Hackett is currently completing a PhD in politics with the University of Adelaide externally, while doing research work and tutoring at Murdoch University. Her interests include international development, gender studies, social enterprise, appropriate technology and Asian studies. She first became interested in these areas during her MA(International Studies), which she completed in a ‘former life’, working as an atmospheric physicist at the Defence Science and Technology Organisation in Adelaide. In conjunction to her studies, Michelle is currently working with the Save the Children ‘It Takes a Village’ homework group, and the Australian Red Cross ‘Save a Mate’ program.
