Dr Kevin James O’Toole has formal qualifications in Law, Science, Economics, Education and Classics. He is admitted to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor in the Supreme Courts of Western Australia and Victoria. Until June 2008 he practiced as a Barrister and Solicitor in the firm of O’Toole & Oprandi in Perth, Western Australia, a firm he founded as Kevin James O’Toole & Associates in 1987. In 2003 he established the Australian Institute of Comparative Legal Systems (AICLS) and has formed associations with European institutions including the Dutch Government’s Hague Institute for the Internationalization of Law, and the Greek Government’s European Public Law Centre (EPLC). He represents the AICLS on the Board of Directors of the EPLC. He is presently a legal counsel to the University of Western Australia and pursues academic interests in classical studies. He has travelled extensively in what was the Greco-Roman world. He has a special interest in the study of reconciliation of divergent legal systems and cultures. In that context he has written and had published works on international affairs with an emphasis on historical background, with some recent work published in Arabic under the translation of prominent Syrian scholar Dr Radwan Ziadeh.
