Liz Byrski

Dr Liz Byrski is a writer and broadcaster with more than 40 years' experience in the British and Australian media. She is the author of eleven non-fiction books and seven best-selling novels and her articles and essays have been published in national and international newspapers and magazines. Her PhD focused on the representation of older woman and feminist ideas and values in Australian popular fiction.
Liz has received a number of awards for her work including the CSIRO Award for Science Journalism (1996), The Australian Journalists Association Radio Award (1996) and Equal Opportunity Media Awards in 1994, 95 and 96. She has also worked as an advisor to a minister in the W.A. Government and as executive producer and broadcaster with ABC Radio in Perth.
Liz’s non-fiction books have been published in Australia and overseas. Her novels are Gang of Four (2004) and Food, Sex and Money (2005) Belly Dancing for Beginners (2006) and Trip of a Lifetime (2008), Bad Behaviour (2009), Last Chance Café (2011). They are all available as audio books and e-books. Her latest novel, In the Company of Strangers, was released in 2012.
Liz has taught a range of courses in writing and broadcasting and has developed and delivered media training courses for government, business and community groups. She now lectures in Professional Writing in the School of Media, Culture and Creative Arts.
