Practical photography (intermediate) UWA Extension

Practical photography (intermediate)

This course has no current classes. Please the waiting list.

Designed for those who know the basic functions and features of their digital camera and wish to learn more (or have completed the Beginners course). Topics include aperture priority, shutter speed priority, portrait modes, landscape modes, exposure compensation, eliminating shutter lag, manual white balance and macro. Note that your camera must have manual settings such as P, A, S, M.

The course examines all the manual modes in some detail – P, A, S and M. We use landscape photography as the vehicle of application and investigate how hyperfocal distance works. But above all we start to look at the design aspects of photography – separation using colour, focus and tone as well as the use of leading lines. And we simplify the seldom understood relationship between aperture, subject distance and focal length, and their combined effects on depth of field. Sounds complicated? It is. But everyone ends up understanding and applying it.

Recommended for anyone with basic skills in digital photography who wishes to upgrade their skills for work or pleasure.

Participants should have a good basic understanding of their camera (by doing the Beginners course or similar) before attempting the Intermediate course.
